It is a toy

But as it turns out, a really cool toy . Not worth the price that they charge for it, so if you are keen on the Modern Warfare 2 Night Vision Edition, you should wait until it gets a nice fat discount - which I think will happen soon.

The only limited edition accessories that I am interested in are figurines or something practical , like a steel lunchbox .
As we head towards the holiday release season, the price cuts are coming thick and fast. PlayStation started with the Slim and Fat, next Microsoft responded with their 360 price cut combined with increased disk space. And finally Nintendo announced a price cut for the Wii. In these tough economic times it's good to know that you can still afford your favourite gaming platform or add another one to your collection. You may have to live on baked beans for a while but it may be worth it. [...]

Crackdown 2

I did not play the first Crackdown but with the news that Crackdown 2 will have Zombies to shoot at, it has definitely moved up my play-list. I am sure that there must be a diagnosis for unnatural zombie love.

The best kind of publicity is the free kind and I think that Sony and EA have cornered that market. With Sony's Nigeria reference in their new PS3 ad, they appear to have offended someone. The revised ad now states that "You can't believe everything you read on th [...]

Back to Arkham

There will be free DLC for Batman: Arkham Asylum dropping on 17 September. There are no details on what the new content will be but the rumour mills, as ever, are grinding away. Perhaps new challenge rooms? A new playable character? It would be great if they turned Batman into a franchise which explored more of the DC comic universe. Bring on Two Face !

Contra

The guys over at Penny-Arcade think that the price drop for the PS3 is the final nail in the coffin of Sony's once great console and that it heralds the end of the console as a serious contender in the next-gen console wars. I disagree, I think that the price of the PS3 is only part of the equation. If the PS3 had a good mix of games including head liner exclusives then it would have been competitive despite its price. But I think that we can all agree that the PS3 game catalog is still fai [...]

The worst kept secret

Sony has finally revealed the long rumoured PlayStation 3 slim. The slim version has all the features of its fat big brother except for the ability to install Linux, no real loss there.

The slim will have a 120GB hard drive , it will be 33% smaller and 36% lighter. The unit will cost R2399 ($299), it will be available from September. The current 80GB version has been reduced to $299 but for my money I would wait for the Slim and cash in on the bigger hard drive.

You [...]

I went away for the long weekend and feel like my batteries have been re-charged. It was good to spend some time away from my PC. Aside from a TV which played movies for the littles ones, I did not spend any time interacting with technology.

A few bits of news that are noteworthy, the new Xbox Live update is available today. It is a mandatory update and will include the following: An Avatar market place, downloading games on demand and allowing you to rate any Xbox Live content. G [...]

The latest World at War Map Pack launches tomorrow. And despite all the hatred for Treyarch, they certainly seem to have redeemed themselves with the great map packs that they have released for World at War.

I am a huge zombie fan but I don't really like the new level as much as I do the first two. However the Bowie knife, weapon upgrades and exploding monkeys certainly grabbed my attention.

Rumour wars

First we have the ongoing rumours of a PlayStation 3 price cut. This has been further fueled by stories of the a PlayStation 3 slim being released. Now there is speculation that Microsoft will discontinue the Xbox 360 Pro edition and keep the Arcade and Elite, which could be timed to pre-empt the PlayStation 3 Slim and it's price reduction. As always only time will tell.

The blog updates are a bit late because I was ill for a few days. The doctor said that it was a combination of allergies and bronchial spasms but I maintain that it was a rare strain of flying pig flu . Either way, there has been alot of gaming news in the past week that I have to catch up on.

First up, Comztek , the guys that were appointed the temporary Xbox 360 distributors will continue as the stand-in distro until the end of this year. When they were initially appointed, they [...]

Infinity Award have spared no expense with no less than three flavours of CoD Modern Warfare 2 to satisfy your taste. There is the ordinary version in a standard disc case, the tin box version, also known as the Hardened version and the Prestige version. The Prestige could also be called the 'are-you-out-of-your-fucking-mind' version. The reccommended retail price is R1500 , granted it has a tin box and night vision goggles, but it still costs more than three copies of the game. I would [...]

Mechlovin'

My giant robot love know no bounds. In all honesty it started with a MechWarrior game trailer and simply veered out of control. As much as I love the idea of piloting a giant robot, MechWarrior's controls made it all too clunky. It was more robot simulator then arcade action. I want my Mech combat to be more Shogo than simulator.

I hope the new MechWarrior game that's in development allows me to simply run around and blow things up without having to worry too much about [...]

I am not a fan of the comic style, the illustrations are not really to my taste. But if you are a Star Wars fan and like Dark Horse comics, then this two for one special is for you.

As a dyed in the wool , world war fan, I like to find new and interesting ways to kill Nazis. Saboteur looks like an interesting concept in the works, it is coming from EA's Pandemic Studios so we should hope for good things...

Unchartered 2 is looking very pretty, hopefully this time the [...]

Zombie 'til you drop

Treyarch have released another map pack, and the best part is that they have added a new Zombie map . I don't think that I will ever get tired of the World War 2 Zombie combo.

The fact the map pack is free to PC gamers really rubs salt in the wound. As an erstwhile, dyed in the wool PC gamer, I feel a physical at pain at having to buy the map packs, especially since I simply want to kill more zombies in new and exotic ways.

I had a look at the full Modern Warfare 2 trailer and it looks great. I know that I am breaking my own rules here but the teaser trailers have got me hooked. I even took a sneak peak at a few screenshots...for shame. To make matters worse I am downloading the E3 game play video while I type this - I really need help...

I am still very curious to see how well DJ Hero is received, from the looks of things the controller has been well implemented. My thinking is that it may turn out t [...]

Milo vs Mylo

Microsoft used E3 to unveil a fairly revolutionary gaming technology incorporating motion sensing and voice recognition. The actual implementation of the tech still has to be proven but it does provide an interesting insight into what the future may hold . Sony for their part decide that E3 is a good place to announce an updated product, which turned out to be a rough hack job of an unsuccessful product . The PSP Go looks alot like the Mylo . The fact that both products have not been as succe [...]

E3 has landed, so now we can progress from pre-show rumours, leaks and teasers to the show rumours, leaks and trailers.

One of the biggest announcements so far is Project Natal and the Milo game from Microsoft. The technology looks like it has great potential and includes motion sensing as well as face and voice recognition. If it is well implemented, it definitely has the potential to knock the Wii off it's thrown. I will reserve judgement until I see Natal in a retail game bu [...]

With the E3 just about upon us the news wires and blogs are going into over drive. The amount of news, rumours and speculation doing the rounds could fill a small country.

One of the more interesting rumours is the news about the PlayStation 3 slim/skinny/ugly which will not be at E3 . As always the focus is on whether this means a price drop for the PS3 Obese. The release date should be around Christmas to take advantage of the gift buying season. This would also allo [...]

I recently had a look at a few inFamous trailers and the game looks great. The environment looks huge and more detailed than any other that I have seen before. It is a PlayStation 3 exclusive, so the PS3 fanboys finally have another title to crow about. If the game is a huge hit, then I predict that it will lose it's exclusivity very quickly.

For all the die hard Call of Duty 2 fans, they have finally released a Modern Warfare 2 trailer, you can check it out here.
