Down time

Published in Untagged  by Ebrahim Sadien |
The site was down for a short period yesterday, apologies for that. The admin was adding some functionality on the server side.

I will be posting pictures from the Tokyo Game Show soon, it's just been extremely busy. The show is amazing and also a bit overwhelming for a first timer. I have new found respect for the people who cover events like this-it's no easy task.

I played a few really good games at the show. Naruto (Wii), Call of Duty 4 (PS3) and Badminton (Wii). I will go into more detail about the games in my next post. For great videos and trailers of the show check out Gamespot and Gametrailers.

Metal Gear Solid 4 looks amazing but I couldn't play it or Gran Tourismo 5 because the queue was so long that you had to wait 45 minutes before you had a turn. Ace Combat 6 also looks great but it also had a super long queue which had to be negotiated.

As a first timer to the show I had no idea how much busier it would get on the second day. All of the popular titles had long queues on day two.

One last point before I sign off. I intend updating the site three times a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I have a day job and other commitments so I may not be able to stick rigidly to this schedule but I will try to be on time.

Domo arigato gozaimasu.

Well it took a total of 24 hours from Cape Town International to my hotel room in Tokyo. 11 Hours from Cape Town to Singapore, a 5 hour stop-over in Singapore, 6 hours from Singapore to Tokyo and a 1 hour train ride to the hotel. A flying experience that I can only describe as zombifying. It took 13 hours of sleep to return to some level of normality.

Tokyo is clean, very clean. I have yet to see any litter anywhere. Traffic is organised it's like a weird ballet of cars, pedestrians and cyclists which has to be seen to be believed.

Tokyo is like a Japanese movie but without the subtitles and you really need the subtitles. My Japanese is non-existent and most of the people I have met speak a few words of english and then lapse into Japanese which turns our communication into a series of smiles and bows.

But on to business. My hotel is located five minutes from the Bandai-Namco headquarters and has the most amazing window displays. I'll post a few pics later. I have also seen alot of plush toy figures of Nintendo and Pokemon characters which are really cool. I have seen alot of Gundam, Bleach and Mario action figurines. But aside from a model of the SDF-1 in the Bandai-Namco window display I have not yet found any Macross figurines.

Tomorrow is the start of the Tokyo Game Show, well the business days. It's a 45 minute train ride from the hotel to the convention centre and I should have alot of news and pictures soon.

There are a few very nice Anime box sets on sale but I have no idea if they contain English subtitles. If you have any idea where english language Manga and sub-titled Anime can be found drop me a line in the comments.

Lancoza 2.0

Published in Untagged  by Ebrahim Sadien |
I hope that this is the end of the beginning because this has been a really long road. I have alot of people to thank for helping me get to this point but at the risk of leaving anyone out I am not naming any names. Suffice it to say that I am hugely grateful.

Lancoza is up and running.

The other big news is that I am leaving for Tokyo in a few hours. I will be covering the Tokyo Game Show and will be updating the site regularly with news and pictures. I also intend doing alot of shopping so drop me a line in the comments if you want to suggest any cool places to shop or crazy toys that I should buy.

It's been a crazy week so I'll sign off before I pass out. I'll be landing in Tokyo on Tuesday and will add another update then depending on how badly jet lagged I am.
